Police Officer Who Shot Philando Castile Has Been Identified

The police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile, Wednesday, (June, 6) has been identified as a 28-year-old officer, Jeronimo Yanez.

According to the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the second cop who was also at the scene of the shooting was officer Joseph Kauser.

Yanez shot Castile who worked as a school cafeteria staff during a routine traffic stop and search as footage of the incident was live-streamed on Facebook by Castile’s girlfriend Diamond Reynolds.

Castile’s death has been ruled as a homicide.

According to a statement by BCA statement:

“Yanez approached Philando Castile’s car from the driver’s side during the stop in the St Paul suburb of Falcon Heights on Wednesday night. 

Kauser approached from from the passenger side. They had stopped the vehicle for having a faulty tail light. Yanez opened fire, striking Castile multiple times. No one else was injured.”

Both Kauser and Yanez have worked with the St. Anthony Police Department for four years and are currently on paid leave.

Their disciplinary record hasn’t been reviewed though the BCA says its investigation is ongoing, as it’s currently interviewing witnesses.

They gave these officers “PAID LEAVE?” Really?
